I feel so silly... why am I the last to know how wonderfully Lorna's knits up?! Yes, its superthin, but on US 0's the fabric is so nice and smooth! I think it must be the nylon content I'm enjoying-- watching the fabric, I know that these will take a beating (like the Opal socks, and my two pair of Lisa Souza Sock! socks-- all with nylon content). Its been on my mind lately, as every pair of my merino socks has holes... I have wide feet and insist on forcing them into shoes that aren't wide enough, rubbing little holes into socks at the widest point of my foot just below the toes. I need to darn them, but the weather's getting so that all I want to wear lately are my stinky Tevas... no socks needed so not on my radar right now.
Anyways! Back at hand, I love LL! But hate every colorway except the one above! :( Any nylon-content sock yarns out there you love?
[edit, 5/6: i am SO mad! one day of admittedly hard wear on these socks, and a hole appears. officially retracting the love... :( ]
Of course I love PGR's toe up sock method too... you can always check out my PGR label/tag to see all of the socks that (recently) fall into that category-- post-Blogger beta, of course. With stockinette off my back, I may go thru this week and start tagging/labelling my older blog posts, I love tags far too much. I also finally broke down & bought the flickr pro account, so I'll be organizing photos into projects over there and joining some groups (like Cookie's Sock Creations). AND (last one) I'll finally have time to play with Ravelry... :)
I think I've beaten out the stockinette urge... hopefully it lasts the 6 weeks. :( I do have another project otn, and finished another...

Lorna's is nice - wears like iron!!! the solids are really pretty.....can't wait to see the German's modeled!!!!
ReplyDeletehello yarn's tough sock yarn has nylon in it, and she always has such lovely colorways.
ReplyDeletethe sock yarn from the wollmeise has nylon in it and wears amazingly well. plus the twist is so nice and smooth and the colors are delish.
ReplyDeleteLoooooove that colorway! I'm desperately afraid of using Lorna's Laces because I hear there can be serious pooling issues. But looking at your socks...they're gorgeous. Maybe I need to rethink my no-Lorna's position.
ReplyDeleteNice striping going on there! I've only used LL twice. My first ones were fuzzy after the first wearing; the second ones are going strong. Lots of commercial yarns have nylon.
ReplyDeleteOooh, your socks look great. I used the same colourway for Jaywalkers and had some funky looking socks, no nice striping for me... I've been looking for pretty yarn with nylon too.

I'm on my first pair of socks with LLs. I like it - but your right. It must be knit up on size zeros.

I have one pair of LL socks, and I wear them a lot. So far, so good. Also got another color for Jays. It is thin, but it does knit up nicely.
ReplyDeletePGR's socks had been cropping all over the knit-blogosphere lately. No idea what's different about it, since I don't have the book.
ReplyDeleteBTW, fabienn, the Wollmeise sock yarn doesn't have Nylon in it. It's 100% superwash merino sock yarn But I'd really recommend you, Aija, to try it out anyway. ;-)
I can't believe it striped like that- I've never seen Lorna's do that! The socks look great!
ReplyDeleteThe 76 sts must be the key to your striping. I have some Black Purl waiting to be knit up and now I know what to look for...76 trombones, I mean stitches.
ReplyDeleteOne thing to watch with LL is that they don't go into the drier. Unlike my Opal socks that have run the gauntlet of both washer and dryer, my LLs started as size 11 and now are size 6 and belong to my 10 year old!

ReplyDeleteIt's funny, I'm working on a pair in the black purl that I started a long time ago in Jayalker. Love the color way too. I've not had good experience with LL's wearing well - my two prior pairs felted on the heels after a couple wears BUT I didn't use zeros maybe 1.5s or even two which I don't ever use anymore. I'm using zeros on my current pair and reinforcing the heels so I'm hoping for good results. By contrast my socks without nylon (STR for the most part) are wearing well.
ReplyDeleteI like how your LL's didn't pool. Too bad you don't like the colorways. I love the colorways but generally hate the pooling. I do like Opal, Regia (have you seen the new Kaffe Fassett line?), Trekking, Fortissima,and Lang Jawoll. I've heard that Wildfoote knits up nice, but is very splitty.
